  • What are electric gates?

Electric gates are gates that are equipped with an automated system powered by electricity to open and close. They provide enhanced security, convenience, and control over access to residential and commercial properties.

  • How do electric gates work?

Electric gates work using a motorized mechanism that moves the gate panels to open or close positions. The system is controlled by a control panel, and access is granted through various devices like remote controls, keypads, intercoms, or smartphone apps.

  • What types of electric gates are available?

Electric gates come in various types, including sliding gates, swing gates, bi-folding gates, barrier arm gates, vertical pivot gates, vertical lift gates, and telescopic gates.

  • Are electric gates safe?

Yes, electric gates can be safe when installed and maintained properly. They are equipped with safety features such as safety sensors, photocells, safety edges, and manual release mechanisms to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Can I automate my existing manual gate?

Yes, existing manual gates can be converted to electric gates by installing an electric gate operator and appropriate access control devices.

  • Do electric gates require maintenance?

Yes, electric gates require regular maintenance to ensure smooth and safe operation. Regular inspections, lubrication, and testing of safety features are essential for proper maintenance.

  • Are electric gates energy-efficient?

Modern electric gate systems are designed to be energy-efficient, consuming minimal power during operation. Some systems can also be powered by solar energy to further reduce their environmental impact.

  • How do I choose the right electric gate for my property?

Choosing the right electric gate involves considering factors such as property type, gate style, security requirements, budget, power source, and compliance with local regulations.

  • Can electric gates be customized?

Yes, electric gates can be customized in terms of design, materials, access control options, and additional features based on the specific preferences and needs of the property owner.

  • Are there any safety regulations for electric gates?

Yes, electric gates must comply with safety standards and regulations specific to the region where they are installed. EN 12453 in Europe are common safety standards for gate operators and systems.

  • How do I troubleshoot common electric gate problems?

Common electric gate problems include gate not opening or closing, slow gate operation, remote control malfunctions, and safety sensor issues. Troubleshooting tips include checking power supply, access devices, safety features, and performing regular maintenance.

  • I have an inclined driveway - does this mean I cannot install an electric gate

An inclined driveway can prove to be a challenging gate installation but sometimes it is possible to install a swing gate that opens away from the house, i.e. open towards the road, although you will need to ensure that the gates do not obstruct traffic or pedestrians on the public pathway.

An option on an inclined driveways is to install a sliding gate; one that either slides to one side of the entrance or a double sliding gate where each gate leave slides.

This will depend on the space available and it is a more expensive option.

  • What happens in the event of a power failure

All customers/home owners will be provided with manual release keys and instructions on how to release the gates in the event of a power failure or gate fault.

Electric gate systems can also come with the option of a battery backup or solar power operation.

  • How will I know that there are people at the gate when it is closed

Almost everyone has a mobile phone nowadays but an electric entrance system can be fitted with an intercom system, which enables people at the gate to contact the home owner.

The intercom will either be hardwired between the gate and the house or will be wireless with a GSM sim card system.

The GSM intercom only requires a pay as you go sim from your local mobile phone provider.

  • How do visitors enter the premises when no-one is in the house

Only if the visitor has a remote control, pin number for the entry keypad or is authorised for access on their mobile phone can they then open the gate.

  • How often do I need to have my electric gate serviced

An electric gate/barrier system needs to be serviced and checked for safe operation at least every 12 months. Systems that are serviced and well maintained will continue to safely and correctly operate for years.

  • I have no cable or power at my existing gate

You can get your local electrician to install the required cables or DMC can install them for you.

DMC will provide you with full written electrical requirements for your project.

DMC Electric gate systems can also come with the option of a solar power operation.

Solar power operation is ideal when there is absolutely no availability or possibility of running a mains electrical connection.
